A 23-point game by team leading scorer Lindsey Johnson was not enough Thursday as Harrisburg fell at home 58-45 to Canton in the District 7A championship.

The Tigers kept the score close through three quarters but a big fourth quarter by the C-Hawks was too much. Canton outscored the Tigers 24-14 in the fourth quarter after only scoring four points the entire third.

The loss ends first-year coach Marcus Leloux and Harrisburg’s season at 13-9.
Johnson’s strong post play kept the Tigers within 10 points after Canton took an early lead. Canton led by five after one and by six at halftime.

Harrisburg had no answer for Canton guard Jaicee Ulmer, who scored 25 points on 8-17 shooting. Stephanie Miller added 14, including four big three point baskets.

The Tigers took a late one-point lead but Canton quickly erased it and outscored Harrisburg the rest of the way.

Eighth grader Haley Halling scored 12 for Harrisburg along with six rebounds. Johnson also had six rebounds. Kayla Taylor had 10 points.

Next season, Harrisburg will return a strong unit led by Johnson and Halling. Brittany Blakney, a ninth grader, played key minutes this season for the Tigers. Starters Taylor, Brianna Tuenge and Katie Goldammer, all juniors, also return.

Harrisburg loses starter Kristin Ackermann to graduation and seniors Taylor Jones and Calista Winter.
